75% of blindness is avoidable

The largest population of visually impaired are elderly family members. Does not matter what is your education and income. For past 4 years NIO Vision Marathon has been an attempt to raise awareness about Avoidable Blindness. Dr. Aditya Kelkar and Dr. Jai Kelkar of the National Institute of Ophthalmology have taken lead in spreading awareness. They guide our team in spreading awareness about avoidable blindness

Diabetes is the number one reason for reversible blindness. Blood vessels in the retina may swell and leak fluid. New vessels may be weak or may grow on the surface of the retina. This makes yearly eye check up mandatory for the diabetic patients.

Glaucoma is the second leading cause of blindness and the leading cause of irreversible blindness worldwide. According to WHO, 4.5 million people are blind due to glaucoma around the world.

A cataract is a clouding of the lens in the eye which leads to a decrease in vision. Cataracts often develop slowly and can affect one or both eyes. Symptoms may include faded colors, blurry vision, halos around light, trouble with bright lights, and trouble seeing at night.

45% of blind children were blind from avoidable causes
Such as: Corneal scarring (mainly from Vitamin A deficiency and measles), Childhood Cataract, Retinopathy of prematurity, Refractive error (mostly myopia), and low vision are reasons that can be avoided.

WHAT OUR CSR PARTNER SAY..

Mobirise

It was a great experience being part of the NIO Vision Marathon 2018, especially participating in the largest blindfolded run where our Bitwise Foundation volunteers teamed up with the visually impaired students and Paraplegic Rehabilitation Centre, Kirkee employees to encourage them & make all participants aware about about the importance of eyesight and how simple measures and precautions can help us prevent avoidable blindness. This marathon has taught us to be socially responsible towards our co-members in society who need our help and time. It has taught us how our physical challenges should not stop us from achieving our goals in life. Thanks a lot for organizing an amazing event!
